Manor Hints: Mark Tewkesbury

Tewkesbury was upset by the idea of casting Pelham in his play, as referenced in “The early plays of Tewkesbury.” At the time of the murder, Tewkesbury’s whereabouts were unknown (see Margaret’s Statement, Clarence III’s statement & Horace Fletchers Statement – all of them mention that he was missing).

Ten minutes before the murder, Tewkesbury was sending a telegram from the post office. Where was the post office located, and could Tewkesbury have returned in time to commit the murder?

Consult the map. The post office is located next to the Police station. But how can we calculate how quickly Tewkesbury can get back to the Manor? See Fitch’s Police Report.

According to Fitch’s police report, the police station itself is a 10-minute drive away. Given that the last telegram was sent from the post office at 4:51, Tewkesbury couldn’t have committed the murder due to the time constraints.
