Player Roles

At the start of the game, each player is secretly dealt a role card. The role you receive determines what your ability and objective is:

Introduction to the game

In a dense, fog-covered forest stands an old mansion. Each of you have received a mysterious invitation to this mansion, promising a night of thrills and entertainment.

Intrigued, you accepted the invitation.

As you approach the mansion, the wrought-iron gates slam shut behind you. You apprehensively creak open the heavy wooden door to hear a voice crackling through an old gramophone.

“Welcome, guests. By coming here, you have trapped yourself in a game of wit and deception. There is a killer amongst us, and they will murder someone every night until my little game comes to an end. ‘How do you end the game?’, I hear you ask. The answer is simple: by winning it. Many of you will win by banishing the killer, but beware, not everyone shares the same agenda.
Only one thing is certain: The truth will always be obscured by lies.”

How to Play

Play this audio at the start of each night phase to instruct certain characters to perform actions and mask the sound of their movements.

1. Build your ‘Playing Deck’ based on how many players you have:

4 Players: Killer , Detective, Thief, Hotel Guest x3 , Gang Leader

5 Players: 4 Player deck + Defence Lawyer

6 Players: 5 Player deck + Private Investigator

7 Players: 6 Player deck + Hotel Guest

8 Players: 7 Player deck + Hotel Guest

9 Players: 8 Player deck + Hotel Guest

10 Players: 9 Player deck + Hotel Guest

2. Separate the Killer card from the playing deck

Remove the Killer card from the Playing Deck, put it to one side, and shuffle the remaining cards in your Playing Deck. Then, place 3 character cards from your Playing Deck face down in the centre of the table.

3. Deal each player a card

Place the killer card back in the Playing Deck, shuffle again, and deal everyone a card face down. Everyone must view their card to see what role they have been assigned. Place your card back on the table in front of you (facedown and near to the 3 centre cards). You MUST NOT show your card to any other player, and you must not touch your card again until instructed to do so.

4. Play the audio to start the night phase

The Night Phase audio is designed to guide you through the night phase while masking any audible nighttime movements.

5. Start the day phase

After opening your eyes, the murdered player must remain silent. The day phase is your opportunity to question each other and try to work out who the killer is. Players have 2 options: vote another player out, or skip vote to enter the night phase without banishing anyone. If the killer is not voted out after the banishment procedure, the murdered player reveals their card, every player secretly checks their card (to see if the thief swapped their role), then you enter the night phase. Repeat this process until there is a winner (the win conditions are on the cards).
