Hint 1

Harry Fenton, the barman at The Garrison, was one of the last people to see Brown alive and admitted to fighting with the victim over a bar tab. What evidence tells us Fenton’s movements?

Harry Fenton’s statement describes how Fenton fought with Brown outside the alley where Brown’s body was found. What evidence tells us when this occurred?

Kenneth Anderson’s statement says Fenton chased down Brown just before Anderson left the tavern at 5:00pm. As well, in Tommy’s letter, Tommy mentions overhearing a fight in the alley as he approached The Garrison around 5:00pm. Fenton claims he returned inside after the fight resolved itself, but is there other evidence to confirm the timeline of his movements?

Moss’s Homicide Report gives Sergeant Moss’ account, where he confirms Fenton came back inside after 5:00pm. The police report also gives us a time of death from 5:15-5:25 on the 1st. Is there more evidence to identify Fenton’s movements closer to the time of the murder?

Tommy’s letter mentions he had a brief chat with Fenton immediately before placing a phone call. The letter from the switchboard operator notes this call occurred at 5:30pm, after which Fenton discovered the body. As he was working inside at the bar between 5:00pm and 5:30pm, Fenton never went unobserved during the time just before and after the murder—his alibi is airtight.
