Hint 1

Neville Moss is a police sergeant in the Birmingham City Police. He has a rocky relationship with the Peaky Blinders, as well as a penchant for fabricating evidence. Did Moss have a motive to kill Brown?

Arthur’s intro letter points us to a phone call between Constable Belvedere and Inspector Campbell, Moss’ colleagues. Listening in to this call (1st August, 11:00pm, Mains 0201 & 0202), Belvedere is given orders to find Tommy Shelby guilty of Brown’s murder, with Moss volunteered to help frame the Peaky Blinders. Moss may have had a hand in Brown’s murder so the police could arrest Tommy and break up the gang. Where was Moss during the time of the crime?

Both Moss’s Homicide Report and Tommy’s letter place Moss in The Garrison. Why was a police officer drinking at a tavern owned by the Peaky Blinders?

Moss quickly arrests Tommy after Brown’s body is discovered, conveniently finding the murder weapon in Tommy’s pocket with little prompting. He must have been waiting at The Garrison to pin the crime on Tommy. But is there evidence whether Moss killed Brown himself?

Harry Fenton mentions seeing Moss drinking alone in his statement. Tommy’s letter explains he saw Moss was lurking, and deliberately left the door to the sideroom open to observe Moss in the Main Room. Thus Moss has a solid alibi for the murder, even if his actions indicate he might have known a murder was going to occur.
